Are you familiar with the word AI? AI is an acronym for Artificial intelligence.
According to encyclopedia.com, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a branch of computer science that seeks to build machines that carry out tasks which when performed by humans, require intelligence. It is safe to say that AI has gained and broken grounds over the past years as a revolutionary technology, from the various advantages which it has given mankind.
Despite the fact that many have not fully comprehended the term, AI is already in use in our daily activities, such as in online shopping, computerized house gadgets, self-driving cars, in using smartphones as assistants, among others. Sadly, AI only includes robots for some. You can’t blame them, as it probably is an evidence of science fiction movies. However, it is good to note that AI is an important key to human advancement, not only in areas of robotics and androids but also in all sectors; particularly the Education sector.
All over the world, the impact of the novel coronavirus has been felt, and education and tutoring exercises have been impacted greatly. This paradigm shift brought about the new normal where students and teachers have had to adapt to non-traditional methods to ensure smooth teaching and learning processes. This emphasizes the importance of the instructive learning framework as society thrives by passing down knowledge to younger generations, therefore, presenting education as a major establishment for societal preservation and progress. No doubts, education equips future leaders and pioneers with useful skills to run the affairs of the state at some point in time, and because the world can never adapt totally as there always will be a shift, the education sector as a matter of necessity should be protected, preserved and continually upgraded, as that is one sure way of adapting to paradigm shifts.
Interestingly, Artificial Intelligence is already being put to the test in developed countries with its benefits evident in their education system. Nevertheless, developing countries are not left out in this, though, the utilization of AI in education is relatively lesser compared to that of their developed counterparts. However, the importance of AI in education cannot be overemphasized as the goal is to improve the efficiency and standard of instructive learning and to determine the most ideal path to learning. Yes, technology is the future and it is significant now like never before that these innovations are utilized to the fullest.
A study published by eSchool News indicates that by 2021, the application of AI in education and learning will increase by 47.5%, and with that would come:
Aside the big scale implementation of this innovation into the educational system, which is usually pricey, individuals on low budgets can also benefit from this. How you may ask? If you’ve ever attended a virtual meeting via Zoom, Teams, Meet, and any of those meeting platforms, then you are already a key participant in this innovation as AI is the core of the virtual space with good user interaction and automated responses.
Another popular application of AI in the learning process is in mobile assistance, where your mobile device through an application basically assists you in some ways just like a human assistant would, for instance, remind you of an event, set up a to-do list for you, transact business for you, automatically read texts on your screen to you, and so on. In the aspect of mobile assistance in education, there are also basic smartphone and PC applications which you could acquire to help you with basic needs such as:
Definitely, some concerns may arise especially as regard AI taking over from teachers. Well, personally, I believe that the impact and involvement of teachers are based on social experiences and interactions which artificial intelligence cannot give. The ultimate goal of AI is not to be seen as a superior or an opposition, but to be a part of the whole education process, helping teachers and students alike to do what is expected of them better. Simply put, AI is here to give only the best, and as humans, we want only the best. So, why wait any further when you can start harnessing artificial intelligence now and reaping its positive impacts in your mode of learning?
